VCPEIT 2024: A Unique Approach to Data Centric Security

Written by Matt Howard | Apr 19, 2024 6:55:20 PM

I’ll be in Nashville next week representing Virtru as a sponsoring vendor at the annual Venture Capital Private Equity Information Technology (VCPEIT) conference. Having seen many different conference formats throughout my career in software, I’ve never seen anything quite like VCPEIT. Why is it different from most conferences? Because it’s truly intimate, uniquely inclusive of sponsors, and provides attendees the opportunity to “go deep” and “get hands-on” with real-world technology solutions.

As one of just 10 vendor sponsors selected to participate, Virtru will have the opportunity to share our unique view of the data-centric security market, demonstrate our products up close and in person, and solicit unvarnished feedback from the 50-60 IT decision-makers from across the venture capital, private equity, and alternative asset market who will be in attendance.

As someone who has been in the game a long time, I can tell you that it’s extremely rare to get this type of opportunity from a conference. I can also tell you that we’re very excited to be there and participate.

Data-Centric Security: The Hottest Topic in Cyber

As everyone in our industry has observed over the past few months, data-centric security has emerged as the hottest topic in cybersecurity. Evidence includes:

Undoubtedly, the market for data-centric security is strong. But, if you dig a little deeper and put on your zero trust security architecture hat, you’ll find some important nuances and a fascinating “dichotomy” that is important for IT leaders to understand.

Virtru’s Unique Role

When it comes to protecting an organization’s entire data estate there are two main governance imperatives: “defense” and “offense”.

Virtru is unique because we operate on the "offensive" side of the game, focusing on enabling organizations to actively and securely share sensitive information to drive business value.

Different from "defensive" solutions that aim to protect data stored within an organization's own cloud environment, Virtru's approach is to provide granular policy, encryption, and access controls for sensitive data that is intentionally shared with others via email, file sharing, and SaaS workflows.

Virtru believes that a comprehensive data security strategy requires both defensive and offensive controls working in tandem. While defensive measures are crucial for safeguarding data from unintentional loss or malicious actors, offensive controls are equally important for governing how data is shared and used outside the organization's direct control.

See You in Nashville!

We’re excited to connect next week with fellow VCPEIT attendees – including numerous folks who are existing Virtru customers. We look forward to exchanging ideas, pressure testing our ideas, and soliciting feedback from some of the best and brightest IT leaders in the game.
