WASHINGTON–( BUSINESS WIRE)– Virtru, a trusted provider of business privacy and data protection to more than 5,000 organizations around the world, today announced it has been named to CNBC’s inaugural Upstart 25, CNBC’s list of promising young startups. Over 500 startups from around the world submitted questionnaires to be reviewed by the Upstart 25 Advisory Council, a group of 39 leading academics and analysts specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship. Virtru was chosen based on their impressive user and sales growth, recent company milestones and access to capital.

“Our mission is to make it easy for everyone to protect their sensitive information and to ensure trust as businesses move to the cloud”

Virtru believes that personal privacy depends on the businesses, governments, and institutions that hold our information. Virtru’s business privacy products are utilized by organizations in all industries around the world and make it easy for businesses and individuals to maintain control over access to their emails, documents, and other data, regardless of where they’ve been shared.

The company’s addition to CNBC’s inaugural Upstart 25 is recognition of the company’s continued customer, partner, product and investor momentum over the past year:

  • In August 2016, Virtru secured $31 million in Series A financing led by Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP). NEA, Samsung and other privacy conscious investors participated.
  • Virtru unveiled the successful integration of its platform to secure sensitive information in the cloud to more than 15,000 State of Maryland employees in October.
  • The company also introduced their Customer Key Server (CKS) to empower enterprises to maintain exclusive access and control of their encryption keys and content while using cloud services like G Suite or Office 365.
  • In November, Google selected Virtru as its recommended partner for encryption on the G Suite platform.
  • Virtru now serves more than 5,000 customers, including HBO; the states of Maryland, Utah and Iowa; and Mt. Sinai Hospital.

“Our mission is to make it easy for everyone to protect their sensitive information and to ensure trust as businesses move to the cloud,” said John Ackerly, CEO and Co-Founder of Virtru. “This recognition is a testament to the importance of our mission and the progress we’re making for businesses and individuals around the world.”

Virtru’s service is free for individual users, with tiered pricing starting at $60 per user per year for businesses. To learn more about Virtru’s award-winning solution, visit http://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/28/upstart-25-virtru.html.
