Advances in technology have enabled the K-12 education industry to vastly improve academic outcomes for students, opening the doors of opportunity for them. However, the introduction of technology into the classroom has exponentially increased the cyber attack surface, potentially opening the doors of opportunity for nefarious actors to access sensitive student information. Safeguarding student privacy is top of mind for school districts around the country and to operate successfully, requires coordination and cooperation from students, parents, community members, teachers, school board members, and state legislators.
Troy Lunt, Data Privacy Manager, Iron County Schools (Utah) and Matthew Faul, Application Manager, Oakland County Schools (Michigan) shed insight into their respective cybersecurity architectures, share best practices, and discuss the challenges, threats, and trends they face as they advance their cybersecurity postures for their schools.
