Joint Solutions Will Bring End-to-End Encryption, Access Control, and Key Management Capabilities to McAfee DLP, SIEM, and CASB Customers
Fresh off a $37.5M Series B funding round led by ICONIQ Capital, Virtru is leading the charge for a new, standards-based approach to data protection. As part of this strategy, Virtru will join the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance (SIA) as an approved Technology Partner. Virtru will continue to add enhanced data protection capabilities to other industry-leading McAfee products, such as McAfee DLP Endpoint, McAfee Enterprise Security Manager, and the McAfee Skyhigh Security Cloud.
Built on the Trusted Data Format (TDF) – an open standard for self-protecting data invented by Virtru Co-Founder and CTO, Will Ackerly – the Virtru Data Protection Platform, and all Virtru-enabled applications, can encrypt and apply fine-grained access control to any data type, no matter where it’s created, stored, or shared.
By leveraging the TDF and Virtru’s patented Secure User-First Technology, Virtru’s McAfee DLP Prevent integration allows organizations to enforce object-level encryption and other data protection policies consistently for emails shared inside and outside of their network. It is able to do this without requiring recipients to install software or create new accounts to access protected content. Unlike most DLP solutions that disrupt workflows by blocking external sharing, McAfee customers can add Virtru’s access control settings to emails and attachments, enabling them to manage sharing even after content has left the network, been consumed by recipients, and forwarded or re-shared.
This integration also enables McAfee enterprise customers to easily run Virtru’s Customer Key Server in cloud environments without having to give McAfee, Virtru or other cloud providers access to the underlying key material. Unlike traditional customer-hosted key offerings, enterprises do not need to trust the provider with their keys.
“Virtru and McAfee share a vision of a world where the enterprise can create, store, and share information with anyone, without the need to trust any third-party technology providers,” said John Ackerly, CEO of Virtru. “Through this partnership, we’re excited to help customers more effectively protect their information both in the cloud and on-premise.”
“Cloud migrations, new regulatory requirements, and a growing data breach threat make it more important than ever for businesses to manage access to their sensitive information,” said D.J. Long, Vice President, Strategic Business Development, McAfee. “McAfee is thrilled to have Virtru join our Security Innovation Alliance and make their data protection technology available to joint customers. Together we are helping restore control to data owners and alleviate the tradeoff between security and ease of use.”
Since its launch in 2015, Virtru’s unique approach to simplifying data protection has won accolades from thousands of enterprise customers as well as leading cloud providers, industry watchers, and the media. Virtru is Google’s only recommended data protection partner for G Suite and was named a 2016 Google Partner of the Year. In 2017, the company was selected for the exclusive Microsoft Accelerator, recognizing its innovative solutions for the Office 365 market. Virtru has been recognized as one of CNBC’s ‘Upstart 25’ Startups, a Security Information Network (SINET) Innovator, and PCMag.com’s Editor’s Choice for Email Encryption. In 2015, Fortune magazine included Co-Founder Will Ackerly in its “40 Under 40” list.
